Musician Spotlight: Buckeye Knoll

“Buckeye Knoll’s story begins in the deep wilderness of California while songwriter Doug Streblow was taking a sabbatical from life. He took a backpack, notebook and guitar and emerged months later with a book full of songs that would become Buckeye Knoll. Part pop, part folk, part rock, Oakland, California based Buckeye Knoll brings to life stories from the far away places in all of us.

Buckeye Knoll welcomes 2010 with the release of their brand new single”I Roll” from their forthcoming debut Full Length Record (yes people are still making records) entitled “People and Place”. Recorded by up and coming engineer Cian Riordan (Man/Miracle, John Craigie, Purple) and mastered by Matt Radosevich (The Matches, Taking Back Sunday, The Hives) the album is set for an April 2010 release with a string of Bay Area Album Release shows scheduled to celebrate.”

Now Brewing: Single Origin Coffee

We are ecstatic about our new single origin coffees and pour over drip bar! These fantastic coffees are ground and brewed fresh for every cup (and will only set you back $2.50).

We’ve started out with a great selection: an Ethiopian Sidamo, a couple of El Salvadorian numbers, and a punchy fellow from Honduras. Come have a cup before they get rotated out for the next micro-lots and expect to see coffee cuppings on our community calender in the near future.

Also noteworthy, having a drip bar means we can serve an honest cup of decaf coffee (no offense americano fans) and a fresher brew of our house blends as our order volume tapers in the afternoon.

Where’s My Organic Milk?

Unfortunately the rumors are true, we have sporadically served conventional dairy over the last couple of months. As store manager, I have been putting off a formal response because we did not think it would take this long to resolve the problem. We had a simple communication issue with our dairy supplier, which in turn led to a serious communication issue, which ultimately led us to a new dairy supplier. In the confusion, we were often forced to make emergency grocery store runs and we had no luck finding organic milk sold in cases.

Rest assured that there is no sinister man twirling his mustache and counting piles of money in the back of our little cafe, we are as committed to organic, sustainable, and local diary as ever. We have one more case of conventional (although rBST free) half & half and the issue will be entirely behind us.

Lets all raise an organic latte and toast to healthy, sustainable dairy!

Vegan Pastries

We are adding vegan pastries options to our weekend menu. We’ll have cranberry orange scones (pictured) and blueberry muffins, compliments of Liberation Foods.

They’re so good, you’ll wish you were vegan so you’d have no choice but to eat them.

Live Music This Weekend

We’ll be having three performances this weekend.

Friday night from 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm we have our nomad regular (customer and performer!) Jeff Landau.

Saturday night from 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm we have Dave Lionelli playing acoustic-guitar driven music with simple, accessible songs and lyrics.

Sunday morning from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm we’ll host our incumbent jazz trio, Trio Paprika who will be coming back every first Sunday of the month.

No excuses for not stopping by for some great music!
